Impact investing enables private foundations to put their endowment assets to work on behalf of their missions as well.   \n \n  \nJeffrey Haskell, chief legal officer of [Foundation Source](http://www.foundationsource.com/), will explain the two primary ways in which private foundations may engage in impact investing: program-related investments (PRIs) and mission-related investments (MRIs). He will discuss how to identify and differentiate the two and how to coordinate them with other private foundation rules. Additionally, Mr. Haskell will touch upon some of the legal forms being used to attract funding for PRIs, as well as the consequences of a failed PRI. Participants will also gain an understanding of how PRIs and MRIs can impact a private foundation. \n \n \nCreating Big Local Impact by "Recycling" Charitable Dollars \n \nTo begin to understand the opportunities/demand for impact investing in the region, it is important to understand the housing crisis within our region. Impact investing is a tool for clients to use charitable assets to create a strong social return in areas that they care about. Such as, building more affordable housing, creating jobs to expand the economy, reducing environmental impacts and more. These are just a few examples of how an impact investment can make positive change. Attendees will learn how charitable dollars are invested in nonprofits- but have a chance to be recycled and be used for further charitable efforts. Thus, creating the potential for these charitable dollars to be used over time, making an even greater impact than a one-time grant.  \n \n  \nAs a community foundation, impact investing is another tool, along with grants, to create a positive impact in the community. In addition to impact investments initiated by the foundation for its unrestricted investment, GCF offers an opportunity for donor advised fund holders and private foundations to partner with us in making these investments. GCF is one of a small number of community foundations that also allows donor advised fund holders to initiate their own impact investment deals, not all will be approved but there is opportunity to vet ideas and build new projects with donor collaboration, provided the donor is willing to meet the minimum investment threshold.        \n \n   \n \nAPPROVED Cont.
