Review the various techniques to fund education, including direct payment of tuition, different types of trusts and Section 529 college savings accounts. Learn the best ways to coordinate multiple techniques to fit the client's circumstances.\n \nUnderstand the advantages and disadvantages of 529 savings accounts, the complicated tax rules governing such accounts and the potential pitfalls. Learn when to consider using 529 savings accounts inside of trusts. This presentation will also cover the tax uncertainties of the 529 accounts. The proposed regulations to Section 529 were issued more than a decade ago. In 2008, the IRS issued an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking which promises a complete rewrite of the proposed regulations and proposes some rules that could dramatically change the usefulness of 529 accounts for estate planning.
